Raphael Diaz Hockey Trophy sets a new record

On Sunday 2 August, the tenth edition of the Raphael Diaz Hockey Trophy took place at the Academy Arena in Zug.

Over 110 children took part in this year’s event, setting a new record for the Raphael Diaz Hockey Trophy, which has been held annually since 2017. The ice-hockey-mad children from various clubs across Central Switzerland were divided into six groups and took part in a varied programme of off-ice and on-ice training.

From 3.30 pm, the sporting highlight of the day was on the programme: a four-a-side tournament across three rinks. After some thrilling matches, the Blue group ultimately came out on top and won the 2026 Raphael Diaz Hockey Trophy.

As well as the event’s namesake, Raphael Diaz, several familiar faces from the EVZ community were also in attendance on 2 August. EVZ players Lino Martschini, Colin Lindemann, Noemi Ryhner and Chiara Pfosi supported the event, as did EVZ legend Fabian Schnyder and SRF expert Philippe Furrer, providing the children with extra motivation and bringing a sparkle to their eyes.

“It’s brilliant to see the joy and enthusiasm the children show both on and off the ice. The fact that we’ve set a new attendance record for the tenth edition makes me very proud and shows just how important experiences like this are for young hockey players in Central Switzerland,” says Raphael Diaz.

The Raphael Diaz Hockey Trophy is made possible by the proceeds from the Raphael Diaz Golf Trophy, which will take place for the 12th time in 2026. Children are invited by the Central Swiss hockey clubs and receive the day’s activities, including kit and refreshments, free of charge.
