Ice hockey at last! And to top it off, an 8–1 win over the SCRJ Lakers.

EVZ have made a convincing start to the 2026/27 pre-season. In their first outing under new coach Lauri Marjamäki, the Zug side were in control of the game in Rapperswil right from the start and left no doubt as to who would emerge victorious.

Marjamäki’s verdict: “It’s a friendly. But I’m really proud of my players. We executed the game plan very well, had structure in our play and got off to a good start. We scored some brilliant goals and were efficient on the power play. All four lines performed well and Mathieu Croce did a good job in goal.”

Straight into the game: EVZ struck on their very first power-play opportunity. Dominik Kubalik scored on the power play. It marked the start of a period of relentless attacking from Zug. By the 25th minute, Tomas Tatar (12th), Kubalik again (16th), Eric Schneller (18th), Vinzenz Rohrer (21st) and Andreas Wingerli (25th) had all found the net to build a formidable 6–0 lead. In the 33rd minute, Sven Senteler added to the tally with the 7–0 goal. The 1–7 goal from Rappis’ Tyler Moy was nothing more than a consolation and was immediately answered by Rico Gredig, who made it 8–1. Gregory Hofmann shone with four assists, whilst Tomas Tatar also set up three further EVZ goals in addition to his own.

A glance at the goalscorers’ list also reveals that the new signings have already settled in well with the Zug side. With Schneller, Rohrer and Gredig, three debutants found the net, whilst goalkeeper Mathieu Croce played the full 60 minutes and was only denied a shutout ten minutes before the end. Jacob Moverare also made his debut in the EVZ kit. Only Chris Egli, following his meniscus operation, is still waiting to make his debut in blue and white. Alongside him, Elia Riva, Lino Martschini and Mike Künzle were also absent through injury.

Vinzenz Rohrer took to the ice as centre. “That’s the plan for the whole season. He’s the sort of player we’ve been looking for in that position and he’s already shown today why that’s the case,” said coach Marjamäki.

So the start to the pre-season has gone well. The Men’s Team’s next fixture is this coming Saturday against Eisbären Berlin at the Dolomiten Cup in Neumarkt (ITA).
