Five Zugers in the national team

Leonardo Genoni, Tobias Geisser, Fabrice Herzog, Sven Senteler and Dario Simion were called up by head coach Patrick Fischer for the World Cup preparations.

After the first two weeks of preparation for the national ice hockey team for the World Championships in Riga, there is a major change in the Swiss squad. The team around head coach Patrick Fischer is supplemented by six players from the two playoff semi-finalists EV Zug and ZSC Lions as well as a first NHL player. New from Tuesday: goalkeeper Leonardo Genoni (EVZ), defenders Tobias Geisser (EVZ) and Dean Kukan (ZSC Lions) and strikers Fabrice Herzog (EVZ), Sven Senteler (EVZ) and Dario Simion (EVZ). Also joining the team is Columbus Blue Jackets' Tim Berni, while Arizona Coyotes' Janis Moser will join in Week 4. The acceptance or rejection of Roman Josi (Nashville Predators) is still open. He is due for medical examinations.

"The decision as to which players have to stay at home this year was not easy for us," says head coach Patrick Fischer. David Aebischer, Thierry Bader, Joshua Fahrni, Lukas Frick, Ken Jäger, Gilles Senn, Nathan Vouardoux and Ludovic Waeber will not be back on Tuesday.

Five forwards are currently injured or injured and will not be available for the 2023 World Cup. These are Sven Andrighetto, Philipp Kurashev, Pius Suter as well as Lino Martschini and Grégory Hofmann from EVZ. The Swiss national ice hockey team trains at KEB Oerlikon on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Wednesday evening she flies to Riga, where two friendlies against Latvia are scheduled on Friday and Saturday.
