Following last Saturday's Champions Hockey League match, the EVZ security service conducted a security and evacuation exercise. Around 3,000 spectators actively helped out, allowing the security service to gain valuable insights.
Following the game, a fire incident was simulated in a food stand at the BOSSARD Arena. The fire alarm system triggered an alarm. After localization of the source of the fire within two minutes by the security service, the overall head of security of the EVZ decided to call up the fire department and to evacuate the BOSSARD Arena. After the evacuation alarm was triggered, the spectators followed the instructions and left the arena. In case of isolated spectators remaining in the arena, the security personnel intervened and ordered them away from the arena.
The security and evacuation exercise was coordinated, professional and straightforward, and provided the EVZ security staff in particular with important insights into the procedure. The findings from the exercise are now being incorporated into measures that will be adapted to the procedure. In addition to the valuable insights, the cooperation with the security partners and blue-light organizations could also be further optimized.
The EVZ would like to thank the spectators who took part in the exercise as well as the blue-light organizations, in particular the volunteer fire department of the city of Zug.
