The joy at Ljubljana about the premiere in the CHL is very great, as the Slovenians now have the opportunity to show themselves in international competition for the first time. Miha Zajc, centre player for Ljubljana: "This is a really big and historic chance for all of us. For us players, it means an even bigger incentive to train even harder in the summer. [...] This is a really big event for Ljubljana and Slovenian ice hockey." The Slovenian team was given a wildcard by the CHL to participate in the 2022/23 championship, as the original participant HC Donbass Donetsk from Ukraine has to forgo participation due to Russian invasions.
For Dan Tangnes, the Slovenian team is the biggest unknown - especially due to the lack of international presence. The club has been playing in the ICE Hockey League since 2021 and competes against teams from Austria, Italy, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Hungary. The team has yet to win a championship title in the ICE; Olimpija has only managed to do so in the Slovenian Hockey League in 2019 and 2022.

The two encounters with the EVZ represent the showdown duel of the group and will take place on 5 October in Ljubljana and on 12 October in Zug.
