«We still have one hurdle to overcome»

Daniela Diaz has celebrated numerous titles as a coach and player. The championship title in the SWHL B with the EVZ Women’s Team is a special one for the Head Coach. Not only because Daniela Diaz won it with her core organization. But because it is not synonymous with the end of the season. “It was a milestone for us, but our mission isn’t over until we’ve successfully qualified for the league,” explains the coach. The opponent in the upcoming best-of-3 series has yet to be decided. It will be decided this weekend in the ranking round of the PostFinance Women’s League whether it will be the Langenthal Ladies or the Lugano Ladies. Daniela Diaz’s motto is: “No matter who the opponent is: we’ll focus on our game and go full throttle for 60 minutes.”

The first match is scheduled for Wednesday, March 20, away from home and the second for Saturday, March 23, in the BOSSARD Arena. Ideally, the Zug women will be able to celebrate their promotion in their home arena. The team is counting on the great support that carried them to a 22:0 victory over Bassersdorf in the last final game on Wednesday. Almost 1500 fans attended that game. “That helps the players enormously to keep up the pace,” says the coach.

Chiara Eggli also emphasizes the “extremely cool” atmosphere in the BOSSARD Arena. The morning after winning the title, the 18-year-old was already back in class at OYM College. “There was still time to celebrate,” says the forward from Unterägeri, who has already won two Swiss championship titles with the ZSC Lions. The real celebrations will come after achieving the final goal of the season: promotion. Captain Lara Stalder reminds her team to stay focused: “We still have one more hurdle to overcome. On the way there, we’ll continue to take it game by game. We’ve been successful so far.”
