Michael Liniger new EVZ Head Coach as of 2025/26

The EVZ has appointed Michael Liniger as its new head coach. The 45-year-old will take over as head coach from the 2025/26 season and has signed a contract until 2027.

The new EVZ head coach is no stranger to the club: Michael Liniger joined Zug in 2022 as an assistant coach and is very familiar with the organisation and its philosophy. “With Michael Liniger, we are not writing a new book, but another chapter – together we will continue to pursue our long-term concept and stick to our vision,” says Patrick Lengwiler, CEO of EVZ, on the appointment of the new head coach from next season. “Michael has all the qualities needed to be successful as a head coach. We are convinced that he is the ideal candidate for this position.”

Born in Langnau, he already has experience as a head coach in the Swiss League. He was in charge of the GCK Lions from 2017 to 2022 and has continued to develop since moving to Zug. He is now ready for his first challenge as a head coach in the National League: “I’m very excited to take on this challenge – all the more so because it will be with EVZ,” says Liniger. “The organisation has a clear vision, which it is pursuing consistently. I am proud to be able to make my contribution to this in the future.”

Liniger will continue to work as assistant coach to Dan Tangnes until the end of the 2024/25 season and will focus on bringing the current season to a successful conclusion. In the past, the 45-year-old has also been a member of the Swiss national team’s coaching staff on several occasions and celebrated winning the World Championship silver medal as an assistant coach in May. In his new role as head coach of the EVZ, however, Liniger will no longer be involved with the national team.
