Chasing the anniversary goal

The Zug women have a double round ahead of them: on Friday they travel to Neuchâtel and on Saturday they host HC Ambrì-Piotta Girls in the BOSSARD Arena.

EVZ wants to reclaim the lead in the PostFinance Women’s League table from HC Davos Ladies next weekend. This will become a reality with two full victories in the encounters with the second-last placed Neuchâtel Hockey Academy on Friday (20:00, Patinoire du Littoral) and the fourth-placed HC Ambrì-Piotta Girls on Saturday (17:30, BOSSARD Arena).

The girls from Zug have recently shown that they are not only at the top of their game, but can also withstand the toughness of their opponents. EVZ forward Luisa Waser, who scored in the last two championship games in a row – against SC Langenthal Damen (8:1) and the ZSC Lions (5:2) – speaks of the lesson Zug has learned from its only loss against HC Fribourg-Gottéron (1:2). “We have to realize that we can’t just score nice goals, we also need rebounds.” These must be won through presence in the slot. Perhaps such a rebound will also lead to an anniversary goal: this weekend could be Zug’s 500th championship goal since the inaugural 2023/24 season. They currently stand on 490.

Fans will be able to see for themselves the progress the women’s team has made in the learning process on Saturday in the BOSSARD Arena. The supporters are an important factor in Zug’s success. With over 800 spectators per game, EVZ is by far the number 1 in terms of attendance. Saturday’s opponents, the HC Ambrì-Piotta Girls (88 on average), have had the lowest attendance so far. As agreed, Noemi Neubauerová will no longer be seen in a Zug jersey. The Czech power forward, who collected 8 points in 9 games in the PostFinance Women’s League, is trying to land a spot on the Toronto Sceptres’ PWHL team.
