Zug cantonal council approves loan for stadium expansion

The Cantonal Council approved the loan from the Canton of Zug at its meeting on Thursday, March 27.

Following the building permit granted by the city council at the end of January, the approval of a repayable, interest-bearing loan of CHF 35 million from the Canton of Zug marks an important milestone in the financing of the “Keep Building” project. The bill was approved by the cantonal council with 71 votes in favor and one against.

«We would like to thank the Cantonal Government, in particular the Finance Director, Cantonal Councillor Heinz Tännler, and the committees for their preparatory work on our behalf. We appreciate the Cantonal Council’s very clear approval of the proposal. It is a recognition of the great social and economic importance of the EVZ for the region on the part of Zug’s politicians and a commitment to the important expansion of the arena.»

Parallel to the political process of the cantonal council’s proposal, the ECC has continued to push ahead with the construction planning in recent months. The “Keep Building” expansion concept, which was developed by architecture firm studiomatt, allows the arena to be expanded without interrupting game operations. The start of construction is still scheduled for summer 2025, which would allow construction work to be completed at the start of the 2027/28 season.
