Nico Gross stays with Zug

The defender extends his contract with EVZ, which expires at the end of the season, until 2024.

Gross moved from St. Moritz to the EVZ Nachwuchs in 2014 and came already in the 2016/17 season as a 17-year-old regularly used in the Swiss League with the EVZ Academy. For the following 3 seasons, the 186cm tall and 86kg defender was loaned to the Oshawa Generals in the Canadian OHL and at the same time completed the first part of his “The Hockey Academy” training, which he will finish next summer after his return to Zug in 2020.

“Nico has developed excellently during his time in North America and last year in his first National League season and has established himself as a regular player,” says General Manager Reto Kläy about the native of Grisons. “He has the prerequisites to grow into a leading player in the defense over the next few years.” In the 2020/21 season, Gross made a total of 52 appearances for the 1st team, scoring 3 goals and 5 assists. In the current season, the 4th-round draft pick of the New York Rangers stands at 2 assists in 21 games.

Nico Gross is happy to represent the colors of the EVZ for 2 more years: “The mutual trust is right and I like it in Zug, both at the club and in the city. If you feel comfortable, you can also call up your performance on the ice better.”
