EVZ at the Red Bulls Salute 2025

The EVZ will take part in the international invitational tournament in Zell am See-Kaprun on August 22 and 23.

Once again this year, it’s top ice hockey in the summer. Tickets are now available for the Red Bulls Salute in Zell am See-Kaprun, which will feature the EVZ, hosts EHC Red Bull Munich and EC Red Bull Salzburg as well as Rögle BK, Dan Tangnes’ new team and 2022 Champions Hockey League winners.

This means that four top-class teams from four different European top leagues will meet around a month before the start of the 2025/26 National League season. The game will be played in the KE Kelit Arena. The home ground of the EK Die Zeller Eisbären offers space for up to 2,600 spectators.

The Red Bulls Salute was born from the idea of offering fans top ice hockey in the summer. The invitational tournament was held for the first time in 2005, when the winner was ERC Ingolstadt. The format and number of participants changed in the following years, but the first-class line-up of top teams from Europe’s best leagues remained. From 2010, the Red Bulls Salute served as the final tournament of the European Trophy, the predecessor of the Champions Hockey League.

The last edition in 2013 was won by the Finnish team JYP Jyväskylä. The tournament then gave way to the Champions Hockey League (CHL). Since 2017, the international invitational tournament has once again been held annually in August.

One of the absolute highlights in the history of the tournament to date was the participation of the Los Angeles Kings. In 2007, the two-time Stanley Cup winners opened that year’s NHL season with a game against the Anaheim Ducks in London. The Red Bulls Salute served the Los Angeles Kings as ideal preparation for the new season. Unsurprisingly, the Kings won the tournament and immortalized themselves in the winners’ list.

THE TOURNAMENT

This year, Salzburg will open the Red Bulls Salute on Friday (August 22, 4 p.m.) with an encounter against EVZ. Munich and Rögle will then battle it out for the second ticket to the final at 7.30 pm. The grand final of this year’s invitational tournament with the two semi-final winners will take place the following day (August 23, 7 p.m.). Before that, the small final for third place is scheduled for 3.00 pm.

THE PARTICIPANTS

EC Red Bull Salzburg is the most successful team in the win2day ICE Hockey League and was crowned league champions for the ninth time last season. The Salzburg team made history in the process; for the first time, a club managed to win the title in the cross-border league three times in a row – the three-peat. The Red Bulls Salute is inextricably linked to the Salzburgers, who have won the tournament twice so far.

EHC Red Bull Munich has already won the German championship four times. From 2016 to 2018, the Munich team made it a three-peat in the PENNY DEL, followed by a fourth championship title in 2023. The Germans’ greatest international successes include reaching the final of the CHL 2018/19. Red Bull Munich has also taken part in the Red Bulls Salute since 2017 and has already won the tournament twice.

Rögle BK is a top club from the Swedish SHL and celebrated its greatest success in 2022 by winning the Champions Hockey League. A year earlier, Rögle finished runners-up in the Swedish championship. The Red Bulls Salute in Zell am See will be the first time the Swedes can be seen. Dan Tangnes will take over as head coach of the team from Ängelholm from the 2025/26 season.
