Next weekend, the championship in the SWHL B is on hold for the EVZ Women’s Team. Instead, it will face ERC Ingolstadt from Germany in two test games in the BOSSARD Arena: on Saturday at 2 pm and on Sunday at 2.45 pm.
The team from Bavaria, the reigning German Cup winners, have a remarkable statistical peculiarity in the current season in the German Women’s Ice Hockey League (DFEL): It has gone 11 consecutive matches without conceding a goal – or in other words, for almost three months, from October 22 to and including January 20. Only in the most recent match, the top-of-the-table clash against Memmingen, did Ingolstadt concede another goal (3:1 win). They lead the table of the seven-team DFEL with a nine-point lead over Memmingen. The top scorer is Canadian Lea MacLeod (29 points in 17 matches). Her father Jeff coaches Germany’s women’s team and the U18 team, which was recently relegated from the top division at the World Championships in Zug.
The Zug team will face Germany’s No. 1 team, ERC Ingolstadt, on January 27 and 28. Admission to the BOSSARD Arena is free.
ERC Ingolstadt has had a women’s team in the DFEL since the 2012/13 season. After three third places and one second place, the club won the championship title in 2022. Last year, it won the Cup. The Ingolstadt women want to successfully defend this success. The Cup winners will be determined on the first weekend in February in a Final 4 tournament – just like in Switzerland. The final tournament will take place in Lucerne – with the participation of the EVZ Women’s Team. This thanks to the 5:1 victory in the quarter-final against the Ambrì-Piotta Girls. This success was followed by two victories in the championship: 21:1 against Lausanne and 24:0 against Thurgau.
The team led by coach Daniela Diaz is looking forward to the upcoming matches against a top European team in order to gain the necessary competitive toughness for the decisive phase of the season. Admission to the matches with Ingolstadt in the BOSSARD Arena is free.
