For the EVZ Women’s Team, which was founded in 2023, encounters with SC Bern Women already have classic status. Zug’s first match in the PostFinance Women’s League will be the fifth time they have faced this opponent (Friday at 7.30 p.m. in the BOSSARD Arena). In the 2023-24 season, the SCB women won two test games and the cup final. In preparation for the current season, the Zug women won 4:3 – against a team that recently won its first championship game 9:0 against SC Langenthal Damen.
“It was important to show Bern that we’ve taken a step forward,” says EVZ forward Naemi Herzig, adding: ”But that was just the beginning – there’s a lot more to come!” The 17-year-old’s anticipation is palpable. After a dominant season in the SWHL B, Zug is now in the right league. Naemi Herzig already has experience in the top division. In 2022 and 2023, she was part of the ZSC Lions’ championship-winning team. “Now the league is much more balanced. We’re hoping for lots of intense and good matches,” says the student at OYM College in Cham.
The Women’s Team welcomes SC Bern Women on Friday and travels to HC Ambrì-Piotta Girls in Ticino on Sunday.
The conditions are also good for the EVZ’s second game of the weekend: on Sunday, the team will visit the BiascArena, where HC Ambrì-Piotta Girls await (puck drop at 5:30 p.m.). The girls from Ticino have already played two championship games and lost both. Nevertheless, they have the league’s top scorer in Michaela Pejzlova (3 goals, 1 assist). She moved to the Leventina from IFK Helsinki and is a teammate of newly signed Zug striker Noemi Neubauerová in the Czech national team.
