Two games, two wins. That applies to the EVZ Women’s Team – and also to their next opponent in the PostFinance Women’s League. Zug will host HC Davos Ladies for the top-of-the-table clash on Saturday (4 p.m., Eisstadion). The team from Graubünden won their games against the HCAP Girls (6:3) and the champions ZSC Lions (4:2). The EVZ defeated the SC Bern women (5:2) and the HCAP Girls (3:2). “Our start was good, but not perfect. We know we can do better,” says Zug forward Noemi Ryhner, looking back on the opening weekend. When asked about the HC Davos Ladies, she says with reference to the two 3:1 wins in pre-season: “They certainly don’t want to lose to us for a third time.”
Two more matches await the Zug team next weekend: on Saturday in Davos and on Sunday at home against Neuchâtel Hockey Academy.
The most recent game against the Ticino team was instructive, says the 24-year-old from Baar. “They played very differently against us than they did against the ZSC Lions. It made us realize that it’s not the champions who are the hunted, but us.” The HCAP girls brought the Zug team to the brink of defeat by counter-attacking: They led 2:1 after two periods before the EVZ managed to turn the tide. “If we don’t play a compact forecheck, we’re susceptible to counterattacks,” said Noemi Ryhner, adding: ”We already know that from last season. We need to pay better attention to that in the next few games.”
On Sunday, Zug’s home crowd in the BOSSARD Arena will have the opportunity to see the progress made. The women’s team will face Neuchâtel Hockey Academy from 2.30 pm. “A tough opponent,” says Noemi Ryhner. “We have to follow our game plan and play consistently for 60 minutes. We’re also reliant on the support of our great fans.”
