Herzig and Wey commit to the NCAA

EVZ players Naemi Herzig and Ivana Wey have committed to universities in North America and will play in the NCAA from next season and the season after.

Starting next season, EVZ forward Naemi Herzig will play for Holy Cross University (Massachusetts, USA) in the NCAA, the North American college league. The 17-year-old made her debut in the women’s national team last year and took part in the World Championships in the USA in April.

One year later, Ivana Wey will also continue her career in the NCAA: She has chosen Northeastern University (Massachusetts, USA). The player from central Switzerland returned home after the formation of the EVZ Women’s Team in the spring of 2023 and will play in the USA from 2026.

DREAM COMES TRUE

“The move to the NCAA is a huge opportunity for Naemi and Ivana. They are in the prime of their ice hockey careers and can only benefit from this next step in their careers,” says a delighted Daniela Diaz, EVZ Head Coach. The two young talents were able to develop optimally last year at EVZ under semi-professional conditions and thus recommend themselves for the college teams.

For both players, the move to North America is a dream come true. “I am very grateful for this opportunity and am looking forward to the new challenge that I will be able to take on in two years’ time,” says Wey. Herzig adds: “It’s also a chance to develop not only athletically, but also personally, and to broaden my own horizons.”

Herzig and Wey are still on the ice as teammates at EVZ until the end of this season – and things are going well for them there: the Zug team is leading the PostFinance Women’s League table and has won ten out of eleven games. Ivana Wey is third in the internal scoring list with six goals and seven assists, while Naemi Herzig has contributed two goals and two assists. Both are currently away with their national teams.
