A double-header in Romandie

This weekend, the EVZ Women’s Team is travelling to western Switzerland to face Fribourg and newly promoted Lausanne.

Following an opening weekend that saw a victory against the Neuchâtel Hockey Academy and a bitter defeat in Davos, the EVZ Women’s Team face a double-header in French-speaking Switzerland this weekend: On Saturday, the Zug women will be away at leader Fribourg-Gottéron from 3.45 pm, and on Sunday at 2.00 pm they will face the newly promoted side in Lausanne. To save a bit of travelling time, the Women’s Team will stay in Zug on Saturday and travel directly from there to Lake Geneva on Sunday morning.

Chiara Eggli will not be able to make the trip. The forward injured her shoulder in the match against HCD and needs to undergo surgery. She is expected to be out of action for around four months. Luisa Waser will still be part of the squad – the 26-year-old is due to undergo a planned operation after this weekend and will subsequently be out for four to six weeks. New to the team is Valérie Christmann from EHC Sursee, who holds a B licence.

Head Coach Daniela Diaz is generally pleased with the start to the season: “I’m proud of how we got off to a start in Neuchâtel on Saturday. We had chances against Davos too, but we weren’t able to convert them into goals.” Even in the first two matches, the Zug side had to do without several key players in defence. “We have a new team and a new challenge lies ahead of us, one that we want to tackle. We now need to carry on with our process and live out our high-performance culture.”
