600 games for EVZ. Sven Senteler will reach this milestone on Saturday evening in Davos. When asked about this special achievement in the changing room shortly after the 5–0 away win in Lausanne, Senteler said: “600 games? I hadn’t even realised. It means a great deal to me! Zug has really grown on me. I’m really looking forward to the match in Davos and will try to put in a good performance.”

After 102 matches for the ZSC Lions, Sven Senteler joined EVZ in the summer of 2015 and is now heading into his 12th season with the Zug side. This year, he wears the ‘A’ on his jersey and, alongside captain Jan Kovar, is first assistant-captain. He’s also made a successful start to the season on the ice. On Tuesday, Senteler scored the goal that made it 3–0 and set up Vinzenz Rohrer’s goal to make it 4–0.

Coach Lauri Marjamäki is still without four injured forwards in Davos: Dominik Kubalík, Gregory Hofmann, Mike Künzle and Lino Martschini are all still listed on the medical report with lower-body injuries. As was the case against Lausanne, the youngsters are set to step into the breach: On Tuesday, the line-up featured no fewer than eight players born in 2003 or later: Mathieu Croce, Nico Antenen, Loris Wey, Colin Lindemann, Vinzenz Rohrer, Rico Gredig, Nik Petrovic and Eric Schneller. This is likely to be the case again on Saturday in Davos.

The HCD have also kicked off the new season with a win. The runners-up beat the SCL Tigers 4–1 in their opening match of the new season. Unlike EVZ, the Graubünden side are back in action as early as Friday. Then, the team led by former Zug player Josh Holden will face SC Bern away from home.

HCD v EVZ has been a hockey classic in recent years, with the Davos side coming out on top. Zug and HCD faced each other in the play-offs in both 2025 and 2026. In a total of nine play-off matches, the Blue and Whites managed just one victory. So it’s high time to turn this statistic around.
