The 40-year-old Canadian starts his second career as a coach with a one-year contract.
The EVZ will start the 2018/2019 season with a completely new coaching team of three. After Dan Tangnes as head coach and Stefan Hedlund as assistant coach the position of the second assistant coach is filled by Josh Holden. The long-time EVZ vorward also takes on additional tasks as development coach for the first team, the EVZ Academy farm team and junior staff. EVZ sports director Reto Kläy is pleased that the meritorious player remains active in the EVZ organisation: “Josh has done a lot for the EVZ, identifies totally with the club and has immense experience. I am also convinced that the three young coaches share the same philosophy and complement each other perfectly”.
Josh Holden ended his active career in March 2018 after 19 professional seasons. Born in Calgary in 1978, the Canadian was ranked No. 12 in the first round of Vancouver in 1996 and contested 60 events in the NHL for Vancouver, Carolina and Toronto. In 2008 he came to the EVZ from the SCL Tigers and was a leader on and off the ice for 10 seasons. Last season he was the 5th foreigner in the first team and a vorward in the EVZ Academy farm team, where he gained his first coaching experience as the trainer’s extended arm. Now he wants to focus one hundred percent on coaching and training work. His career as a player will be honoured accordingly at the start of the season festivities. More information will follow.
Josh Holden has lived with his family in Canton Zug for 10 years and should soon receive a Swiss passport. This has no influence on his commitment as an assistant coach.
