The Zug team will take part in the invitational tournament in Kitzbühel together with three other top international teams.
From 13-14 August 2022, the international invitational tournament will once again take place in Kitzbühel with the hosts EC Red Bull Salzburg, champions of the win2day ICE Hockey League, and the runners-up of the PENNY DEL, Red Bull München. The top-seeded pre-season tournament will be completed with the basic round winners of the Czech Tipsport Extraliga, Mountfield HK, and the Swiss champions EVZ.
Ice hockey fans can once again look forward to two top-class match days when four top teams from four European top leagues – two champions, one runner-up and one basic round winner – meet for the fourth time in a row at the Sportpark Kitzbühel from 13 to 14 August and set a first highlight before the start of the 2022/23 season.
Salzburg’s Head Coach Matt McIlvane says: “The Red Bulls Salute is always a great tournament for us and offers the opportunity to prepare for the Champions Hockey League and the season in the best possible way. It’s exciting to have two new top teams in the tournament alongside Munich and ourselves. We are already very excited about Zug, a top team from Switzerland, as well as the Czech top team Mountfield HK. The tournament seems to be getting stronger and stronger and we are already very excited about the challenge.”
The participants besides EVZ
Mountfield HK, based in Hradec Králove (100km east of Prague), play in the Czech top league Tipsport Extraliga and finished the basic round as winners for the first time last season, which means the Czechs will also play in the CHL for the fourth time in 2022/23. However, they were eliminated early in the quarter-finals against BK Mladá Boleslav. Head Coach: Tomáš Martinec (CZE).
Red Bull Munich is one of the most successful German ice hockey teams and won the German ice hockey league PENNY DEL three times in a row from 2016 to 2018. The Munich team’s greatest international successes include reaching the final of the CHL 2018/19. In the last DEL season, Red Bull Munich lost 1:3 (best of five) in the final series against Eisbären Berlin. Head Coach: Don Jackson (USA).
The EC Red Bull Salzburg plays in the cross-border win2day ICE Hockey League and last season brought the championship trophy back to Salzburg after six years. In the process, the Salzburgers celebrated one of the best seasons in the club’s history. Going into the playoffs as winners of the basic round, they won twelve games outright and became champions of the ICE Hockey League for the seventh time overall. Head Coach: Matt McIlvane (USA).
