Farewell game for Carl Klingberg

After seven seasons, Carl Klingberg left the EVZ in April. For his official farewell, the Swede will return to Zug once again on October 1.

In 2016, Carl Klingberg had joined the EVZ from Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod (KHL) and would not have thought at the time that he would stay at Lake Zug for a whole seven years. “I came to Switzerland with a one-year contract, and Zug has since become a second home,” says Klingberg, who quickly played his way into the hearts of the fans and became a crowd favorite. In April 2023, his time with the EVZ came to an end after more than 400 games in the Zug kit – including 365 in the National League and 43 in the Champions Hockey League – and the tall Swede returned home to his youth club Frölunda Göteborg.

During seven seasons in blue and white Klingberg scored 107 goals and 118 assists in the league, finally celebrated two long-awaited Swiss championship titles in 2021 and 2022 and the Cup victory in 2019 after bitter playoff final defeats in 2017 and 2019. “If someone had told me that seven years ago, I would not have thought it possible. I am proud of what we have achieved as a team during this time and how I have personally developed as a player,” “Klinger” looks back with gratitude. “I became a better player at the EVZ. Already in my first season at Zug, I got my first call-up for the Swedish national team, with which I was able to win the gold medal at the 2017 World Championships.”

On Sunday, October 1, Carl Klingberg will be officially bidden farewell on the ice during the home game against Geneva-Servette before the game.
