It’s Playoff Time!

The EVZ finishes the qualification in 4th place and will face the fifth-placed SCB. Advance ticket sales for the EVZ home games start on Wednesday, March 6 at 10:00 am.

With the ninth defeat in the tenth game in the direct duel against Lausanne, the EVZ no longer had a chance of finishing in third place, which would have potentially offered the opportunity to participate in the Champions Hockey League next season. Nevertheless, the team of Head Coach Dan Tangnes was able to secure a place in the top 4 despite the negative series and will therefore start the playoff quarter-finals with home ice.

SC Bern, who finished the qualifiers in 5th place with four points less than Zug, await them there. The Mutzen’s form at the end of the qualifiers is more promising: seven wins from the last 12 games, three times the Bernese were only beaten in overtime or on penalties. This was also the case on Monday evening against second-placed Fribourg-Gottéron, who decided the Zähringen derby in their favor after 67 seconds of overtime.

HEAD-2-HEAD

EVZ had a slight edge in the head-to-head duels with SCB in the regular season: the Colinstädter won the first two games in a shootout at home in Zug and away in Bern. Lino Martschini was the only successful penalty taker in both games, while Luca Hollenstein (home) and Leonardo Genoni (away) saved all of their opponents’ attempts. In the other two encounters, the away team took home the three points.

TEAM COMPARISON

If you take a look at the statistics of the two quarter-final opponents, it becomes clear that the Bernese are more efficient than the EVZ, especially in the power play. The power play has been Zug’s problem child all season; they are in last place in the league, with SCB in 7th place.

TOP SCORER

Lino Martschini was the EVZ’s top scorer with 41 points from 52 games, while Dominik Kahun will wear the Flames helmet in Bern’s first playoff game thanks to 15 goals and 35 assists in 47 games.
