EVZ terminates contract with Michaelis

EVZ terminates the contract with Marc Michaelis, which runs until 2025. The expiring contracts of Brian O’Neill and Assistant Coach Todd Woodcroft will not be renewed.

Marc Michaelis signed a two-year contract with Zug in February 2023. After a thorough analysis of the past season, EVZ has decided to terminate the employment relationship with the German ahead of schedule.

«We have come to the conclusion that we want to take a different approach to our squad planning.»

Reto Kläy, General Manager EVZ

The forward scored 15 goals in 61 games for Zug and set up 28 of them. The EVZ would like to thank Marc Michaelis for his commitment last season and wishes him every success in his future career.

The contracts of forward Brian O’Neill and assistant coach Todd Woodcroft, which expired at the end of the 2023-24 season, will not be extended either. O’Neill joined EVZ in 2022 from Jokerit Helsinki (then KHL). In his first season in Central Switzerland, he collected 47 points in 61 games. In the past season, he was slowed down by a cervical vertebra injury, which he suffered last December. He made his comeback to the ice in the playoff semi-final against the ZSC Lions.

Woodcroft, who joined EVZ in January, is also leaving Zug. “The contract with Todd was limited until the end of the season,” says Kläy. Here, too, it was agreed that they would like to take a new path. The EVZ wishes Brian O’Neill and Todd Woodcroft all the best for their professional and private future.
