Leon Muggli signs entry-level contract

The Washington Capitals have signed defenseman Leon Muggli to a three-year entry-level contract.

On Saturday, June 29, Muggli, who turned 18 on July 9, was drafted 52nd overall by the Washington Capitals in the 2nd round of the NHL Draft in Las Vegas. The Cham native spent the past week in the US capital at the Caps’ development camp. “It was an incredible experience. I woke up in the morning and couldn’t believe that I was about to get on the ice in Washington,” enthuses Muggli.

The defender has now signed an entry-level contract with the 2018 Stanley Cup winners for the next three years. The length of the contract is linked to the age of the player – for 18-21-year-olds, this is three years.

The Washington Capitals expect to loan Muggli to EVZ for the 2024-25 season. “That would be the best thing for Leon’s development,” says General Manager Reto Kläy. “We are currently in talks with Washington and Leon’s agent.”
