Geisser stays with EVZ until 2029

The EVZ extends the contract of defenseman Tobias Geisser ahead of schedule by four years.

The tall defender (195 cm and 101 kg) played at all youth levels at EVZ from U15 onwards and gained his first experience in the National League as a 17-year-old in the 2016/17 season. His talent did not go undiscovered by NHL scouts and the Washington Capitals secured the rights to Geisser in the 2017 draft with the 120th pick in the 4th round. A year later, they signed the two-way defenseman to an entry-level contract, but only used him on the AHL farm team Hershey Bears.

Geisser returned to EVZ on loan for the first time for the 2020/21 season and won the Swiss championship title with Zug in May 2021. National team coach Patrick Fischer rewarded his performance with the first World Championship call-up of his young career. After another year in the AHL, the 25-year-old finally joined his training club on a three-year contract in 2022.

«I’m very pleased that we were able to settle Tobi’s long-term future before the start of the season. He is a sure value in our defense.»

Reto Kläy, General Manager EVZ

Geisser will start his eleventh season with the EVZ on Tuesday at home against HC Lugano and will remain with the club until at least 2029.
