Dan Tangnes’ last season at EVZ

The EVZ head coach has asked for an early termination of his contract, which runs until 2026.

“Seven years ago, I was given the opportunity to take over the position of Head Coach at one of the best organizations in Europe. These seven years have been marked by many unforgettable experiences, successes and friendships. I am incredibly grateful for that,” says Dan Tangnes. “But my family also returned to Sweden two years ago and I want to be closer to my wife and 14-year-old daughter again. I have therefore asked the EVZ to terminate my contract at the end of this season.”

Under Tangnes, EVZ celebrated its first title in 21 years by winning the Cup in 2019, followed by the runner-up title in the same year. In 2021, Zug finally won its long-awaited second Swiss championship title and repeated its success the following season. The Norwegian was brought to Central Switzerland in spring 2018 as a dynamic coach and young talent promoter. With his profile, he was a perfect fit for EVZ’s vision of promoting young talent from its own ranks and bringing them to the top.

The early termination of the cooperation with Tangnes comes unexpectedly for the EVZ, admits General Manager Reto Kläy: “His decision surprised us. Nevertheless, we accept his decision and can understand his reasons”. Tangnes’ long tenure at EVZ is unusual in the National League, but reflects the organization’s philosophy of continuity and sustainable development. “We will take the necessary time to recruit a new head coach for the men’s team,” emphasizes Kläy. “We want to find someone who shares our values and supports our long-term concept.”

Until the end of the season, the EVZ can count on Dan Tangnes’ full commitment: “I want to create great memories with this team and the entire organization and end my time at EVZ on a high.”
