After the national team break, the sixth-placed EVZ will face off against fifth-placed SC Bern. Zug have been in strong form ahead of the national team’s games at the Karjala Cup, with six wins in their last eight games. Bern, on the other hand, have only won three matches in the same period.
The team from the federal city is a welcome guest at the BOSSARD Arena. Zug has won the last four meetings, including three matches in the playoff quarter-final series last spring. In the first meeting this season, Zug won 4:2. It was the evening on which Daniel Voženílek’s impressive streak began. Since then, the winger has scored in all championship games – eleven times in a row. If he also scores in the next three matches, he will draw level with the record holder in Switzerland’s top division. Lance Nethery managed to score in 14 consecutive games for HC Davos in the 1985/86 season.
Daniel Voženílek played for the Czech Republic in the Karjala Cup. He did not score a goal in the three matches. His clubmates Dario Simion and Fabrice Herzog, on the other hand, scored for Switzerland. With defenseman Tobias Geisser and forwards Sven Senteler, Mike Künzle and Attilio Biasca, four other EVZ players were called up – no other club provided more.
EVZ forward Grégory Hofmann was not present. He celebrates his 32nd birthday on Wednesday and could give himself and the fans a nice present: If he manages to score two points against SC Bern, he will have reached the 200-point mark in Zug.
