The EVZ was able to settle another personnel matter: The captain will stay on board until 2027. “Jan is a leader, on the ice and in the dressing room,” says General Manager Reto Kläy about the 35-year-old Kovar. “He’s very important to the team.” Jan Kovar, who joined EVZ in 2019, has been the team’s captain since 2021.
His qualities on the ice are obvious: in the 2020/21 championship season, he was named the league’s top scorer and MVP of both the regular season and the playoffs. After winning his second personal championship title with the EVZ, he was once again named the most important player of the playoffs in 2022. In the current season, Kovar already has six goals and 19 assists after 26 games – meaning the 182 cm tall and 96 kg center is producing almost one point per game.
EVZ and Jan Kovar have agreed on a contract extension until 2027.
«I feel at home here. I love the city, I love the fans – I’m proud to be able to play two more years in this great organization!»

But the down-to-earth Czech is also a leader off the ice, is respected by his teammates and coaches and is popular with the fans. “I feel at home here. I love the city, I love the fans,” says a delighted Jan Kovar about the contract extension. “I’m proud to be able to play two more years in this great organization.”
