Kovar: “We can hardly wait”

At last! The EVZ’s first home match of the 2026/27 NL season takes place on Friday 23 October at 7.45 pm. Captain Jan Kovar and the whole team are really looking forward to it.

OUR EVZ

211 days without a home match. That is how long EVZ fans had to wait after their last home match in the play-off quarter-finals against HC Davos on 26 March 2026, until – this Friday, 23 October 2026 – the time has finally come again.

The south stand of the OYM Hall is shining in new splendour. The new 67 Sportsbar, the TUGIUM and the EVZ STORE are all set to welcome the huge crowds of fans. There is great anticipation in and around the EVZ for the first home match in 211 days.

The same goes for Friday evening’s star players, captain Jan Kovar and his team-mates. They have put in a valiant performance over the last seven weeks, securing five wins on their ‘Tour de Suisse’ – eight away games in a row. Kovi says: “It wasn’t easy playing away all the time. But I think we’ve made a successful start to the new season.” Despite having the second-best points average, Zug are currently only ranked 11th. The reason for this is the smaller number of (home) matches played by EVZ. “We’re not focusing on the league table. We knew in advance that we’d have played far fewer matches at this stage of the season,” said the Czech player.

This makes the anticipation for our first home game of the season all the greater. Jan Kovar: “We can hardly wait – the excitement is huge.”

OUR OPPONENT

EVZ will face Lausanne in their home opener of the 2026/27 NL season. They have fond memories of the Vaud side. At the start of the season on 15 September, Zug celebrated a 5–0 away win at the Vaudoise Arena. However, after a tough start to the season, Lausanne have now found their form and worked their way into the top six. They have also been making waves off the ice recently, signing Philipp Kurashev. However, the national team player’s debut on Tuesday did not go to plan. Despite leading 2–0, Lausanne went on to lose 3–4 to EHC Kloten.

For Jan Kovar, the match against LHC could be a very special one – provided, that is, he scores a goal. It would be Kovi’s 100th goal in the National League for EVZ. This special home opener would certainly provide the perfect setting.
