Zug women are ready for the next step

The SWHL B playoffs begin on Saturday with the quarter-final series (best of 3) against Lyss (5.30 p.m., BOSSARD Arena).

On their way to the SWHL B championship title, the EVZ Women’s Team will face DHC Lyss in the playoff quarter-finals. The Zug women know this opponent all too well, as the two teams met in the last qualifying game. EVZ won 19:1, and the fact that they won the final period 10:0 shows that the team is focused to the end. “One of our goals is to play our game for 60 minutes,” says Zug defender Nadine Hofstetter. That also applies to the upcoming quarter-final. The first game of the best-of-3 series will take place on Saturday in the BOSSARD Arena (game starts at 5.30 p.m.), the second on Sunday at 11 a.m. in Lyss. The deciding game will be played in Zug on Wednesday, February 28.

Nadine Hofstetter emphasizes the motto set by head coach Daniela Diaz: “The quarter-final is the next step towards the championship title and the desired promotion to the PostFinance Women’s League.” Nadine Hofstetter knows from her many years of experience that promotion will not be a foregone conclusion. The 29-year-old international is the second oldest player in the Zug squad. After three championship titles with the ZSC Lions, she moved to SC Reinach, with whom she experienced a bitter disappointment in the spring of 2022. The top-division club was defeated in the league qualifiers by B-club Langenthal and relegated. Now Nadine Hofstetter wants to be on the other side with the EVZ. Especially as Langenthal, of all teams, could be Zug’s opponent in this year’s league qualifiers (starting on March 20). The Bernese team finished last in the qualifiers.

In order for the Zug team to achieve their goals, they need the support of their fans. Nadine Hofstetter raves about the crowds and the atmosphere during the qualifiers, the test matches against international teams and the (narrowly lost) cup final against Bern. “I’m getting more reactions from those around me than ever before in my career. People are very interested,” says the Immense native. This euphoria should now carry the EVZ to the championship title first.
