After a challenging season that ended in last place, HC Ladies Lugano have decided not to play the league qualifier against SWHL B champions EVZ and to be relegated. This also means that the Zug team will be promoted directly after their outstanding season and will compete in the PostFinance Women’s League from the new 2024/2025 season.
Paolo Angeloni, Director Leagues & Cup, had the following to say: “We would like to congratulate EVZ on a great season crowned with the championship title and promotion. At the same time, we regret that after many years in the top women’s ice hockey league, the story of HC Ladies Lugano ends this way and Lugano is relegated. We tried everything, but were unable to find a suitable solution for the Ticino team.”
HC Ladies Lugano will not play in the league qualifier against the SWHL B champions and will therefore be relegated from Switzerland’s top women’s league. It is therefore clear that EVZ will play in the PostFinance Women’s League from the upcoming 2024/2025 season.
“Of course it’s a shame that the promotion games won’t take place. But at the same time, I’m over the moon that we’ve achieved our goal for the season,” says Head Coach Daniela Diaz, adding: “I’m extremely proud of our team!”
