EVZ receives building permit for expansion of the BOSSARD Arena

The planning application for the “Keep Building” project submitted on October 3, 2024 was approved by the city council on January 28, 2025. The EVZ can therefore press ahead with the construction planning and plans to start construction in the first half of 2025.

With the granting of the building permit, the EVZ has reached the next important milestone in connection with the planned expansion of the BOSSARD Arena. Over the past few weeks, the objections raised by neighbors following the building application and public display were resolved in joint discussions between the City of Zug, representatives of the neighborhood and the EVZ. As a result, the city council was able to grant the building permit at its meeting on January 28, 2025.

«We are very happy that we have received the building permit. This is an important milestone in the project. My sincere thanks go to the Zug City Council, with whom we had a close exchange and who worked very actively to find a good solution. I would also like to thank the representatives of the neighborhood for the constructive discussions and their trust in the EVZ.»

Patrick Lengwiler, CEO of EVZ, is delighted with the building permit

With regard to the financing of the stadium expansion, an important step was also taken last week with the 1st reading of the proposal for a repayable loan from the Canton of Zug in the amount of CHF 35 million. The cantonal council bill will now enter its 2nd reading. At the same time, the EVZ is pressing ahead with construction planning so that – subject to the financing solution – construction can begin in the first half of 2025.

The “Keep Building” expansion concept developed by architects studiomatt allows the arena to be expanded without interrupting match operations. The summer of 2025 will therefore be used primarily to start important preparatory work. This includes reinforcing the roof structure and initial work on the relocation of Weststrasse by the city of Zug. The exact construction program is still being worked out. With construction due to start in summer 2025, the plan is to open the expanded arena for the 2027/28 season.
