Digitisation of over 10,000 EVZ newspaper articles

The joint project between the ECC and the Zug Library to digitise historical newspaper articles has been successfully completed. In July and August, over 10,000 articles from the years 1986 to 2000 were scanned and preserved for the future.

The call for applications for the project was published on the ECC channels in May and met with great interest: Several people came forward, and four committed helpers from the EVZ environment were selected. Under the leadership of Nadia Christen and Joel Zumbühl from the Zug library, Nora Baumgartner, Werner Lohr, Thomas Arnold and Thomas Fridlin prepared the documents, operated the sensitive scanner and checked the results on the computer. In total, they invested around 50 volunteer hours in the project.

Thanks to this great support, the digitised articles can now be viewed in the digital reading room of the Zug library. Nadia Christen, Head of the Zug Collection and Documentation Department at the Zug Library: “It was very important to us to make the ECC dossier accessible in the digital reading room, as the ECC plays an important role in Zug. Thanks to the excellent collaboration, we were able to realise this in a very short time – which makes us particularly happy.”

The ECC also received a complete digital copy for its archive – including a full-text search, which makes internal research much easier. “The digitisation of these articles is a great benefit for the ECC archive. We are delighted that we were able to realise this project together with the Zug library and the volunteers. It shows how much commitment and passion there is for our organisation,” adds Marisa Boog, project manager at EVZ.

Although the collection is not complete, it represents significant added value for the club’s history and the Zug library. As a thank you for their efforts, the helpers and the Zug library project team were invited to EVZ’s National League home game against EHC Biel on 19 December 2025. After the game, they had the opportunity to meet defenceman Dominik Schlumpf in person, ask him questions and get photos and autographs.

The EVZ project team and the Zug Library would like to thank everyone involved for their commitment and passion for making the history of the EVZ accessible to future generations.
