It seemed like it was going to be a good evening for EVZ: after five minutes, the hosts were leading 2-0 thanks to goals from Lino Martschini and Andreas Wingerli. “That was probably the best start to the season so far,” said Raphael Diaz after the game. “Then we completely lost our heads.”
For head coach Michael Liniger, too, the game against Ingolstadt was a reality check: “It was a test for all of us. We weren’t consistent in the things we discussed, and they took advantage of that.”
After two opening victories, the first defeat of the CHL campaign followed on Friday evening. On Sunday, EVZ will be looking to make amends in front of their own fans.
Now it’s one game after another, and on Sunday the team faces the Belfast Giants. The Northern Irish team also suffered a 3-7 defeat in Lausanne on Friday evening and will be eager to take home some points from their Swiss trip in Zug.
«Head coach Adam Keefe — a Giants legend — has been leading the team for eight years, continuously developing the squad. Their playing style is rooted in the North American game, and thanks to strong connections, they’ve been able to bring quality players over to Europe. As underdogs in the Champions Hockey League, they play with grit and intensity. They’ve already pulled off some surprises and fully embrace the CHL experience together with their passionate fanbase.»
