The European adventure continues

On Tuesday, October 7, EVZ will be guests at Lukko Rauma’s Kivikylän Arena.

The traditional Finnish club, founded in 1936, has established itself as a force to be reckoned with in recent years. Lukko celebrated championships in 1963 and 2021, and has also reached the semifinals of the Champions Hockey League twice (2016, 2024). Particularly impressive: despite its relatively small hometown, Lukko can count on a loyal and vocal fan base.

This season, the return of Antti Raanta is making headlines. The goalkeeper, who has played almost 300 NHL games, is returning to his home club after 14 years – most recently he played in Switzerland for Genève-Servette. Defenseman Eric Gélinas, known for his physicality and shot, should also be familiar to Swiss ice hockey fans: the Canadian played for SC Bern and HC Ajoie from 2022 to 2024. On Tuesday, Gélinas will also stand out in the top scorer jersey – he has scored three goals and three assists in four games.

Before facing EVZ, Lukko is currently in 8th place, just one point behind Zug in 5th. The head coaches of both teams have a lot of respect for each other:

«The EVZ is a very high-class team with top players from all over Europe. For us, it’s a tough test and at the same time a great opportunity to measure ourselves against the best.»

Tomi Lämsä, Head Coach Lukko Rauma

«Lukko brings many young, fast players and a very balanced team to the ice. They play with speed and energy – we have to be prepared for all four lines.»

Michael Liniger, Head Coach EVZ
