Rauma visit EVZ in the CHL quarter-final

The EVZ wants to reach the semi-finals of the Champions Hockey League. To do so, it must make up the 1:3 deficit from the first leg against Lukko Rauma (FIN) on Tuesday.

The week with the monster programme – four games in five and five games in eight days – is just around the corner. The intensive pre-Christmas phase starts with a highlight: on Tuesday at 7.45 pm, the Champions Hockey League hosts Finnish representative Lukko Rauma.

In the first leg a fortnight ago, the Zug team was beaten 1:3. They were not without a chance, but despite a strong performance from goalkeeper Leonardo Genoni, they could only manage one goal in Finland; Mike Künzle scored immediately after the start of the final period to make it 1:2.

This means that the EVZ will go into this second leg with a two-goal deficit. In the end, however, the aggregate score after two games is decisive for advancing in the CHL playoffs. If both teams have scored the same number of goals after 120 minutes, extra time will be played. The Zug team therefore needs at least a two-goal lead after 60 minutes. If they lead by more, they go straight through to the CHL semi-finals.

In the semi-final, the EVZ would face the winner of the quarter-final duel between Ilves Tampere (FIN) and Lulea Hockey (SWE). The Finns narrowly won the first leg 3:2 and Head Coach Michael Liniger’s team is the last remaining Swiss team in the competition after the elimination of the ZSC Lions and SC Bern. It would be Zug’s second advance to the CHL semi-finals since the 2022-23 season.

But it’s not that far yet. Lukko Rauma’s defence has to be cracked first. An endeavour that the EVZ has not really succeeded in this season in two attempts. The two teams already met in the regular season, with Zug losing 0:1 – also away from home in Finland.

That is set to change on Tuesday. The third clash will finally take place in the OYM hall in front of the home fans, where the game will then continue at a fast pace. One day later, EHC Kloten will make a guest appearance before the clash against EHC Biel on Friday. The intensive pre-Christmas week will then be rounded off with the away trip to Rapperswil (Saturday, 20 December) and the home game against HC Davos (Tuesday, 23 December).

For season ticket holders, the quarter-final game is included in the subscription – if you can’t make it, please pass your ticket on to a friend*. There are still seats and standing places available in the EVZ ticket shop. The popular Dine & View package is also available for this game – season ticket holders benefit from a special offer, information on which you have received by e-mail.

Tables are also still available in the 67 Sportsbar to get into the culinary mood for the game.

*The EVZ Marketplace is unfortunately not available for Champions Hockey League matches.
