As in the quarter-final, the opponent in the semi-final is no stranger: EVZ already travelled to the small town just south of the North Pole in the regular season. In the game against Luleå Hockey at the end of August, EVZ emerged victorious after overtime – Lukas Bengtsson scored the golden goal in the 63rd minute in his home country.
EVZ last finished in the top 4 in Europe in January 2023. Back then, Zug were beaten 2-0 away and 3-2 at home by the eventual CHL winners Tappara Tampere. Head coach Michael Liniger’s team now has another chance at the start of 2026 to become only the third Swiss team to reach the final. After the comeback against Lukko Rauma – the EVZ turned a 1:3 deficit from the away game in Finland into a 4:3 win – the Zug team should go into the clash with plenty of confidence.
