  • Czech Republic: Noemi Neubauerová

QUARTERS

The quarterfinals of the Olympic women’s tournament have been decided. As expected, Switzerland will face Finland on Saturday evening, February 14, at 9:10 p.m. in Milan. The Swiss team still has a score to settle with the Finns after losing 1-3 in the group stage. The winner of the match will play in the semifinals next week and thus compete for Olympic medals. Noemi Neubauerová faces Sweden with Czechia.

GROUP STAGE
Right in their opening game, the five Zug players in the Swiss national team jersey face their teammate Noemi Neubauerová from Czechia. The Swiss show morale, come back from a 1-3 deficit and save themselves in the penalty shootout. This is only decided with the 16th penalty – by EVZ player Ivana Wey. The young forward had already converted her first penalty attempt, as had Lara Stalder. The national team thus wins 4:3 on penalties and takes two important points and a lot of morale with them in the battle for the best possible quarterfinal spot.

On Saturday and Monday, the Swiss women face the gold medal favorites from Canada and the USA. As expected, they suffer two defeats (0-4 against Canada, 0-5 against the USA). Noemi Neubauerová and Czechia have already finished the preliminary round with a total of 4 points. Switzerland, meanwhile, lost their final group game 1-5 to Finland late on Tuesday evening. EVZ and national team captain Lara Stalder was unable to play due to a head injury sustained during the warm-up. Switzerland thus finished the group stage in last place.
