Continuing the winning streak away from home

Three games, three wins – EVZ is looking to continue its winning streak in away games on Tuesday evening in Biel.

2-1 in Lugano, 5-2 in Kloten, and most recently 4-0 in Ambrì – EVZ has had an impressive start to the season on the road and is looking to keep its clean sheet intact in Biel (and that doesn’t just refer to the color of the away jersey). No other team in the National League has won all of its away games after 60 minutes so far, and only HCD has also won all of its games, albeit once after a penalty shootout – in the OYM hall in Zug.

On Tuesday, Biel will be waiting for an opponent who, three weeks into the season, is still waiting for its first win after 60 minutes. The Seelanders have four defeats, one overtime win, and three shootout wins to their name. With eight points from as many games, head coach Martin Filander’s team is in 11th place.

«We have shown in certain parts of the game so far that we can beat any opponent. Now we just need to learn to do that for 60 minutes, then the first three points will come.»

While EHC Biel-Bienne has won all games lasting longer than 60 minutes so far, EVZ only achieved such a success last Saturday against the ZSC Lions: Sven Senteler saved Zug with his 100th National League goal in overtime. Head coach Michael Liniger’s motto is therefore likely to be to decide the game against Biel after 60 minutes.

EVZ loan player Samuel Guerra will make his 750th National League appearance on Tuesday. The Ticino native has played in two games for Zug so far, averaging 20:30 minutes of ice time and posting a +3 rating. On Saturday, it was his shot from the blue line that Loris Wey deflected to tie the game at 1-1. The defenseman is currently under contract with HC Lugano, but made his NLA debut in the 2009/10 season with HC Davos, where he played until 2016. After stints with ZSC and Ambrì-Piotta, his youth club, Guerra played two more seasons with HCD before returning to Ticino in 2021.
