Zugerinnen travel to Biasca for top-of-the-table clash

The women’s team is at the top of the table with maximum points. Their only pursuers are HC Ambrì-Piotta, who are hosting on Saturday (starting at 5 p.m.).

15 points from five games: EVZ has a perfect record in the PostFinance Women’s League. On Saturday, the league leaders will visit their only remaining pursuers, HC Ambrì-Piotta (5 p.m., BiascArena). The Ticino team won 4-2 at ZSC Lions on Thursday after trailing 1-2 and are two points behind Zug. Former Zug player Lena-Marie Lutz leads the team as top scorer. EVZ won 5-2 at HC Davos Ladies on Thursday. As in their previous 7-0 win against Swiss champions SC Bern, the Zug women implemented head coach Daniela’s instructions for long stretches of the game. They focused on their strengths and remained patient. The first goal – their 600th in the championship since joining the SWHL B two years ago – did not come until midway through the game. After that, the Zug women had the game largely under control. And when things got dicey, goalie Yara Keller was alert.

Another indication of the team’s dominance: EVZ is also the leader in the fairness table with only 12 penalty minutes. But the Zug women know very well that the current situation is only a snapshot. Last season serves as a reminder. Back then, the Zug women suffered their first defeat against HC Fribourg-Gottéron Ladies in the sixth championship game. A few days earlier, they had celebrated their fifth victory – in Davos.
