The EVZ then has another away game against the SCRJ Lakers on Friday, followed by a three-day break for the squad, which continues to be plagued by injuries. At least center Sven Leuenberger is expected to return to the line-up for Thursday’s home game against Ajoie.
After two consecutive wins against the ZSC Lions – despite Zurich having far more chances – and against EHC Biel, against whom they almost gave up a 4-0 lead, another defeat followed on Tuesday evening in the duel against Fribourg, who are close behind them in the table. As a result, EVZ has slipped to sixth place, two points behind Geneva and Gottéron. The gap to Lausanne has also grown to four points with one game less played.
On Thursday evening, EVZ welcomes bottom-of-the-table Ajoie. For Zug, it is their fifth game in nine days.
Ajoie won at home against Langnau on Tuesday, securing points 6, 7, and 8. With around a third of the championship completed, the Jurassians are languishing at the bottom of the table and, like EVZ, have not been spared injuries: Currently on the injury list are goalies Benjamin Conz and Noah Patenaude, defensemen Kevin Fey, Thomas Thiry, and Gael Christe, and forwards Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, Lilian Garessus, and Kevin Bozon.
The first meeting between the two teams in Pruntrut at the beginning of October ended in a 3-1 victory for Zug.
