Visiting the League Leaders

On Sunday afternoon, EVZ travels to the Landwasser Valley to face HC Davos.

Since the start of the season, HC Davos has been sitting firmly at the top of the standings. The gap to the closest pursuers is already more than ten points. If the Grisons continue at this pace, even EVZ’s all-time points record from the 2020/21 season could come into reach – to equal the 119 points, Josh Holden’s team would need to average around 2.1 points per game, while about 2.2 points per game would be required to set a new record.

Even without breaking that record, Davos’ season so far has been one for the history books. They started the campaign by matching a benchmark that had stood for 13 years – nine consecutive wins. By now, Davos has recorded 19 wins in 23 games, two of them after penalty shootouts – one of those on September 23 in the OYM Arena. That night marked the first point Davos had dropped all season.

Can EVZ find a way to challenge the record champions again on Sunday 15:45 PM?

For EVZ, Sunday’s matchup against HC Davos will be the third competitive game in just five days. On Wednesday, the team earned a 6–0 victory, securing the perfect position for next Tuesday’s CHL Round of 16 return leg against Sparta Prague. On Friday, Michael Liniger’s squad carried their strong post-national team break form into the domestic league, defeating Ambrì 4–2 at home. With that win, EVZ moved up one spot in the standings and now sits in fourth place.

Davos, meanwhile, suffered a loss to Fribourg-Gottéron in their last outing. On Sunday, Matej Stransky will once again wear the top scorer’s flame helmet for HCD — and as the league’s leading scorer, the Czech forward will play a key role in Davos’ offensive efforts upon returning from suspension. He had been replaced by Filip Zadina, who is also in excellent form with 11 goals and 9 assists in 19 games, and together they are expected to pose a serious attacking threat.
