Zug welcomes Fribourg for re-start

Here we go again! On Tuesday, the EVZ will face Fribourg-Gottéron in the OYM Hall.

The National League took a relatively long three-week break in February. On Tuesday and after the Olympic break, however, it will resume with a full round. Our EVZ will take on Fribourg-Gottéron, currently second in the table.

EVZ is in the thick of the battle for a playoff spot. The starting position is extremely tense. They are 9 points off 6th place and a direct playoff spot. Making up these points in just six games is a Herculean task and always depends on the results of the competition. Ranks 7 to 10 qualify for the play-offs, where two additional play-off places will be contested from 12 to 18 March.

In the Zug camp, however, they want to concentrate on themselves anyway. Following the change of coach from Michael Liniger to Benoît Groulx, they have won three of their last five games, in particular the last one before the Olympic break, away at the ZSC Lions. So the trend is right. In addition, the team has strengthened its squad over the Olympic break with the addition of Jakob Lilja. The former Ambrì and Fribourg player should give Zug’s offence an additional boost.

Lilja’s old employers Fribourg now await the EVZ on Tuesday. And the EVZ has yet to win against Fribourg this season. Two of the three duels have gone to penalties, but the team from the Saanenstedt have had the better of the shoot-out on both occasions. Will this series be broken on Tuesday? It would be the perfect start for Zug in the battle for a play-off place, which will be decided in the coming weeks.
