Seal the deal in Rappi

The EVZ has made the first leg of the play-in against the SCRJ Lakers. In the second leg on Saturday, the definitive entry into the play-offs should follow.

Playoffs without the EVZ? It feels like an eternity ago. And it should stay that way.

Coach Benoît Groulx’s team laid the foundation for this on Thursday evening. For 60 minutes, the EVZ was the better team in the play-in first leg against Rappi. And in the final period, this was finally, finally reflected on the scoreboard. David Sklenicka, Fabrice Herzog and Tobias Geisser scored in the last 10 minutes to give Zug a 5-2 win and thus a three-goal cushion for the second leg.

Because the aggregate score counts in the play-ins. After the first leg, the starting position is as follows:

– If EVZ wins in Rapperswil on Saturday, it will be in the play-offs

– If EVZ draws in Rapperswil on Saturday, it will be in the playoffs

– If EVZ loses by one or two goals on Saturday, it will be in the playoffs

– If the EVZ loses on Saturday with a three-goal difference, an endless overtime immediately follows. The game is played 5-on-5 until one team scores. The winner advances to the playoffs.

– If the EVZ loses by four or more goals on Saturday, the Lakers will be in the playoffs. The EVZ would have to play Bern or Biel in Play-Ins 2.

After yesterday’s performance, there is much to be said in favour of one of the first three scenarios. But the bag still has to be closed. The play-off quarter-final series against Davos or Fribourg would then follow from Friday 20 March. HOPP EVZ!
