After Lausanne comes Biel

Half of the first back-to-back weekend of the 2026/27 NL season is now over. Following their 4–1 victory over Lausanne, EVZ travel to Biel this evening.

OUR EVZ

Three wins in a row. The EVZ never managed that once in the whole of last season. The Zug side made up for that shortcoming in impressive fashion last night. Their defence was so solid that the victory was never really in doubt. Up front, Rico Gredig and Sven Senteler struck twice in quick succession within a matter of seconds in the second period – as did Vinzenz Rohrer. Our PostFinance top scorer found the net both very early on and right at the end.

Rohrer said after his successful home debut: “It was great fun. We got off to a brilliant start and then played with discipline right through to the end. We can build on performances like this.” The Austrian, who holds a Swiss licence, was omnipresent on this special evening – the first home game of the 2026/27 season. Among other things, he got into a tussle with Lausanne’s Philipp Kurashev, sending sparks flying both on the ice and in the stands amongst the fans.

OUR OPPONENT

The action continues this very evening. At last, EVZ will also be playing back-to-back matches this season. On the agenda is an away fixture against EHC Biel. The Seeland side secured two important wins against the SCRJ Lakers last week, but are still struggling to climb out of the bottom of the table. After a frantic final period featuring 9 (!) goals, EHCB suffered a 3–6 defeat to Fribourg on Friday.

However, the match on Lake Biel won’t be a walk in the park for the Zug side. Last season, EVZ won once and lost once away at the Tissot Arena. One thing is clear to all EVZ fans, though: the run of four wins in their last five matches – including three in a row recently – must absolutely continue.

Head coach Lauri Marjamäki is still without Lino Martschini, Chris Egli and Lukas Bengtsson.

A MESSAGE FROM RICO GREDIG

Yesterday’s home match also marked the home debut at the OYM Hall for other players. And, just like Vinzenz Rohrer, Rico Gredig also made an immediate impact in his very first game. In the 36th minute, he deflected a thunderbolt from Moverare into the net to make it a reassuring 3–1. After the match, Gredig recorded a video message for all EVZ fans.
