Dear EVZ family
Another year has passed. A year in which the EVZ has moved people in and around Zug. The most recent example? On Tuesday, the men’s team defeated the Finnish top team Lukko Rauma to reach the semi-finals of the Champions Hockey League! While the ZSC Lions, SC Bern and Lausanne failed in the round of 16 at the latest, we in Zug can continue to dream of the title in the premier class.
These are wonderful prospects. However, as a consequence of the national team break for the Olympic Games, a lot will be demanded of us. Because a look ahead to January shows: The men’s team will play an incredible 15 games between 2 and 31 January – or play every other day. This is unprecedented in the history of the EVZ. Let’s support our team in this intensive phase, in which we want to create the best possible starting position for the decisions in spring!
The turn of the year is also always a time for looking back and looking ahead. 2025 was and is characterised by new beginnings. The “Dan Tangnes” era came to an end in spring. Not with the desired outcome, we won’t mince our words. We have come to terms with the tough quarter-final exit against Davos, but our long-term vision – to win titles with our own talented youngsters – has not changed under new Head Coach Michael Liniger. We are convinced of our path and will not buckle at the first sign of resistance.
A lot is also happening with the EVZ Women’s Team. Just two and a half years ago, we started in the second-highest division, but this season, thanks to our first place finish in the current season, we have our sights set on the championship title in the PostFinance Women’s League. True to the motto proclaimed when the women’s team was founded: “Do it right or not at all.” The women’s team has already crowned its achievements with the 2025 Cup victory. We look forward to continuing this success story.
The EVZ is much more than just ice sports and there is also a lot going on off the ice. In focus? The expansion of our arena under the project name “Keep Building”. As soon as we received the building permit in January 2025, we were able to get started so that our home arena will shine in a new light from November 2027. It was also given a new name at the start of the 2025/26 season: OYM hall. While the south volume is already visible, we will start the civil engineering work for the north volume in January. We have kept our promise regarding a winter landscape to replace the outdoor ice rink – the Herti Zauber is very popular with many visitors. We have created a new winter meeting place for Zug.
We are now looking forward to a year 2026 with numerous highlights. The EVZ women could really kick things off with a Cup win in mid-January. In the men’s team, we are looking forward to the Champions League and playoffs. On 28 February, we will present our new EVZ logo. And in the summer, the Zug lido and its catering facilities will open for the first time under the management of the EVZ.
All of this is only possible with the support of you, fans, patrons and sponsors. We are aware of this. Together with you, we want to keep Zug and the region moving in 2026 – on and off the ice. We are looking forward to it!
First of all, I wish you all, dear EVZ family, a relaxing festive season and a Merry Christmas!
