With the 26-year-old Riva, the EVZ has secured the future of another defenseman. The Ticino native, who moved to Zug the summer before last, has signed until the end of the 2027-28 season. “We see a lot of potential in Elia, he’s in his prime,” says General Manager Reto Kläy.
While Riva experienced some teething troubles in his first season with the EVZ, the current season got off to a good start: In 15 games, the 180 cm tall and 80 kg heavy defenseman scored five goals and five assists. At the end of October, Riva was slowed down by an upper-body injury and has missed all games since then, but should soon return to the Zug lineup.
EVZ has nine defensemen under contract for the upcoming season: Nic Balestra (until 2027, The Hockey Academy alumnus), Lukas Bengtsson (2027), Gabriel Carlsson (2026), Mischa Geisser (2027, THA alumnus), Tobias Geisser (2029), Niklas Hansson (2026), Elia Riva (2028), Dominik Schlumpf (2026) and Livio Stadler (2028, THA alumnus).
EVZ extends the contract with defenseman Elia Riva by three years.
