For Genève-Servette HC, the remaining three games are all about averting an early end to the season. After a mixed season, they are in 12th place after 49 rounds, two points behind the last play-in spot. While the Calvinstädter are actually in midfield with their goal production, their defense is one of the worst in the league – only Ambrì and Ajoie have conceded more goals. The goalie tandem of Robert Mayer/Antti Raanta is also one of the weakest in the regular season with a save percentage of around 90% each.
For Geneva, the current season is a copy of the last one after the 2022 championship title and the 2023 CHL triumph: A year ago, they saved themselves to 10th place despite three defeats in the last three qualifying games (one of them against EVZ). In the play-in games, however, two defeats against EHC Biel-Bienne sealed the end of the season. However, the Servettiens are currently on a roll and have won five of their last six games, most recently three in a row. For Geneva, after the game against EVZ, the direct duel against Lugano and the final game against top team Bern are still on the program. With just four points between 13th and 10th place in the table, anything is still possible for the Eagles, from play-ins to the end of the season to the playouts.
On Tuesday evening (February 25, 7:45 p.m.), the EVZ will face Geneva.
A look at the head-to-head meetings between the EVZ and Geneva paints a clear picture: Zug has won all three games so far, in each case by clear margins of 5:1 and 7:4 at home. Only away in Les Vernets did the team of head coach Dan Tangnes, who will probably be replaced behind the boards by his assistant Michael Liniger for the last time this season on Tuesday evening, drop a point after overtime exactly one month ago.
