The EVZ has found its ideal player for the center position: Tomáš Tatar will join the Zug team from the New Jersey Devils for two years starting next season. The 34-year-old has spent the past 16 seasons in North America, 14 of them in the NHL. Tatar played a total of 927 regular season and 56 playoff games for the Detroit Red Wings, who secured the rights to the 179 cm tall, 78 kg forward in the second round of the 2009 NHL Draft, the Vegas Golden Knights, the Montréal Canadiens, the New Jersey Devils, the Colorado Avalanche and the Seattle Kraken, collecting 509 points (234 goals, 275 assists).
The Slovakian signs a contract with EVZ until 2027.
The Slovakian international also wore his national team’s kit 69 times and captained them at last year’s World Cup. In 2012, Tatar sensationally won World Cup silver with Slovakia – at the age of 21, he was the youngest player in the team and contributed five points to the success.
«With his enormous experience from almost 1000 NHL games and his game intelligence, he is an important reinforcement on our center line.»
General Manager Reto Kläy on the new addition
Tatar is considered a technically skilled forward with a good overview. “In recent years, Tomáš has regularly played in the wing position – with us, he will be used as a center,” explains General Manager Reto Kläy.
