The 48-year-old Swede joined Zug in the summer of 2024 and served as assistant coach under Dan Tangnes last season and under new head coach Michael Liniger this season. Montén and EVZ have now extended his contract, which was originally set to expire in spring 2026, by one year ahead of schedule.
The EVZ has extended Tomas Montén’s contract as assistant coach by one year until the end of the 2026/27 season.
«The first team has benefited enormously over the past year and a half from Tomas’s wealth of experience in various roles with the Swedish association and various clubs.»
Reto Kläy, General Manager
Kläy continues: «This means that Tomas remains our ideal candidate for one of the two assistant coach positions, and we are delighted to have been able to extend his contract ahead of schedule.»
EVZ is Tomas Montén’s first posting outside from Scandinavia. The Swede, who launched his coaching career at the young age of 24, previously held various positions with the Swedish Ice Hockey Association, Linköping, and HV71. In Zug, he completes the coaching quartet alongside Michael Liniger, Roger Hansson, and Simon Pfister.
