Two weeks after the start of the season, Samuel Guerra joined EVZ on loan from HC Lugano due to the precarious injury situation in the defence. Since then, the defenceman has played 24 championship and five Champions Hockey League games for Zug.
EVZ has signed the defenceman to a contract for next season plus an option. Guerra has been playing for Zug on loan since the end of September.
Lugano has now cancelled Guerra’s contract, which runs until the end of the 2026-27 season, by mutual agreement at the end of the current season. This clears the way for the 32-year-old to sign a contract with EVZ for one season plus an option.
“Sam has been a valuable reinforcement for our defence in recent months and has brought stability with his strong tackling and calmness.”

Guerra is currently still under contract with HC Lugano and is on loan with Zug until the end of January. It has not yet been decided whether the loan will be extended until the end of the current season.
